GIS

A Geographic Information System (GIS) is computer-based technology that enables information associated with a physical location to be mapped, viewed and analyzed. GIS is a powerful tool for describing existing conditions, modeling future possibilities and generating solutions. At the Puyallup Tribe, the GIS Department’s mission is to provide excellent GIS services to the Tribal Government and Community so that they have timely, accurate information for effective decision-making. The GIS Department principally assists other Tribal Departments with the acquisition, management, analysis and visualization of their spatial data. We complete several hundred mapping requests for Tribal Departments and Members each year, resulting in the annual production of about 1,000 maps and well over a hundred reports.
